Metal Cans

  • Aluminum and bi-metal cans
  • Clean and rinse - no food debris!
  • OK to leave labels
  • Remove lids

 

NEWSPAPERS

  • All newspapers, including inserts
  • Remove rubber bands and plastic wrap
  • Do not tie in a bundle and do not bag

 

CARDBOARD & PAPER BAGS

  • Corrugated boxes, boxboard, paper egg cartons, cardboard rolls, paper bags, all colors, all sizes
  • Remove all plastic or foam liners
  • Break down, cut or flatten every size of box
  • No food residue!

 

YARD TRIMMINGS

  • Including plants, grass clippings, tree and bush trimmings, Christmas trees, etc.
  • Leave grass clippings on lans; they act as a natural fertilizer and mulch
  • Does NOT include food scraps!

Where to go:

Take trimmings to EKO Compost (572-8844) located at the Central Maui Landfill or in West Maui at the Olowalu Recycling & Refuse Center on Honoapiilani Hwy.

BATTERIES & TIRES

  • Auto: State law requires stores that sell batteries and tires to accept used ones when new ones are purchased. Where: Most stores that sell batteries and tires will accept used ones.  A fee may be charged.  Call the store first, to check for individual store policies.
  • Rechargeable Household: Where:  Home Depot
  • Household Batteries: Where: Long's Drugs - place in the big green box at the photo center.

 

PHARMACEUTICALS

Do NOT flush!

Drugs cannot be fully extracted in waste processing. We are working on getting a take-back program implemented.
