Keiki Stuff - For the Kids CWD was founded as an educational non-profit organization, and has always taken part in an active teaching program for children. We believe if we educate young people about the right ways to reuse, recycle and dispose of materials properly, they’ll do it for life, and teach their children. We have many programs for kids and young adults. Here are a few: Circulating Curriculum – We have three refurbished notebook computers which are available to classrooms for a week, free of charge. Teachers may use them as tools to integrate litter cleanup, environment and health lessons into their lesson plans. Each computer already has installed on it flash presentations on such things as how landfills work, videos on what kids around the country are doing to help clean their neighborhoods, and games which teach in a positive way the benefits of picking up litter. Teachers can call us at 877-2524 for more information and reserve the computers. Paint-a-Can – Each September more than 80 55-gallon refuse cans are delivered to schools around Maui County. Classrooms paint the cans with colorful art, decorations and themes. The barrels are then transported to the Maui County Fair Grounds, where everyone can see their work.Get the Drift & Bag It! – one of the most popular activities with children is our annual program of beach cleanup. It might be the waves, sun and sand, but hundreds of children work in dozens of beaches throughout Maui County to clean up debris and report what they find to the international Ocean Conservancy. |
