Accomplishments

Dumped appliance1. We run five county-wide cleanups every year, as listed in the calendar attached. This involves more than 5,000 volunteers on three islands cleaning beaches, parks, shorelines, communities and roadsides.

2. We run larger projects around the county, including the Waikapu Cemetery Improvement, restoration of Old Maui High School, tree-plantings on medians and roadsides, and renovation of the Ola Hou Building on the Old Puunene School Campus, to be used to teach challenged children.

3. We coordinate a Home Help Program, which works with senior organizations and the county to modify living quarters for the elderly and handicapped, so they can keep their living spaces for as long as possible.Recycle computers

4. We have just established an education program in our new Education Extension building. We have held “train the trainer” classes with national Keep America Beautiful trainer Sue Smith. KAB affiliate leaders from Kauai, the Big Island, Oahu, Lanai and Molokai joined us on Maui. We trained them to expand their litter and cleanup education programs, and provided some tools to begin that process.

5. We run two Compuswaps for the County of Maui, the next one being July 23. We recycle up to 70 tons of computing equipment, keeping it out of the landfill.

6. Until the Metal recycling plant on Maui was closed, we removed more than 300 derelict vehicles from our roadsides and properly recycled the metals.

7. We run children’s games at reading events in Kihei, to support reading and litter control (they read about recycling, etc.)

8. In the past 18 months we ran more than 50 projects, in addition to the yearly calendar of events.
