About CWD
Community Work Day Program (CWD) is an independent private, nonprofit 501c(3) corporation dedicated to educating people about clean, beautiful environments. This includes – but is not limited to – litter pickups, recycling programs, native plant restoration, park and roadside improvements, classroom demonstrations, and “teach the teacher” programs.
We are funded by grants from Maui County, private foundation and federal grants, and donations of time, money, services and goods from private citizens and businesses.
Our strength is our volunteers. We exist to help volunteers accomplish tasks which will help keep our islands safe, healthy, clean and beautiful. We work to provide volunteers with supplies like bags, gloves, water, vests, hard hats, grippers, and lights. We handle bag pick-up when a task is done, containers when large areas need to be cleaned, and we report on all this activity to the county, the foundations, the Ocean Conservancy, among many other places.
We are a member of the Maui Non-profit Education Organization, the state leader for Keep America Beautiful, and the county affiliate for that organization. We partner with many other nonprofits to reach our goals: Habitat for Humanity, Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, Sierra Club, Main St. Associations, Community Associations, etc.
